The Hispanic American Council has five different program areas:
Education
Goal: To improve educational progress and opportunities for Hispanic children and adults.
- English as a Second Language (ESL) instruction for adults Mondays and Wednesdays during the school year from 6:00 pm – 8:00 pm at the Council Offices.
- Family Reading Program provides literacy activities for the children of ESL participants Mondays and Wednesdays during the school year from 6:00 pm - 8:00 pm at the Council Offices.
- Youth Enrichment Services is a summer program that provides opportunities for secondary students to explore careers, leadership and higher education opportunities. Contact The Council for further information.
Health
Goal: To improve health care services and access for Hispanics.
- The Mental Heal Services for Youth and Families program is currently being developed and will provide bilingual, culturally appropriate mental health services.Please call the Council for more information.
Language Services
Goal: To enable communication when an English/ Spanish language barrier exists.
- The Council offers interpretation and translation services (Spanish and English) for individuals and institutions. Please call 269-385-6279 for more information or to schedule an appointment.
Community Engagement
Goal: To strengthen connections between Hispanic communities, non-profit and government organizations, and others who share our mission and values.
- Hispanic Liaison Program: Provides referrals, advocacy and direct services for Hispanics
- Hispanic Heritage Festival: September 27, 2008 will be a day-long celebration of Hispanic culture
- Hispanic Athletic Leagues: Athletic, social and wellness activities that build community awareness of the Council. Please call the Council for more information.
Capacity Building
Goal: To enhance the Council’s ability to pursue our mission, vision and values.
